Who we are
findyou.ca is the publishing house of Find You Media Corporation ("Find You Media," "we," "us," "our"), a documentary media company based in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. We make portraits of a place — written stories, photography, and short and long-form film.
This Privacy Policy applies to findyou.ca and to the forms, subscriptions, nominations, and messaging we operate through it. The site is hosted on and powered by PLATFRM, which processes data on our behalf as a service provider.
For privacy questions, our privacy contact is reachable at privacy@findyou.media.
The short version
- We collect only what you give us — name, email, phone, your city, nominations and messages — plus basic technical data needed to run the site.
- We never sell your personal information, and we never share mobile opt-in or consent data for anyone else's marketing.
- Text messages are opt-in only. You can reply STOP at any time to end them.
- You can ask us to see, correct, or delete your information, or withdraw consent, at any time.
- We make documentary work in public. If you appear in footage and have a concern, you can write to us — see Filming in public.
Scope & the laws we follow
We aim to meet or exceed the privacy laws that apply to us and to you, including:
- Canada — PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) and British Columbia's PIPA, which govern how we handle personal information.
- Canada — CASL (Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation), which governs our commercial email and text messages and requires your consent.
- United States — TCPA and CTIA / carrier A2P 10DLC rules for application-to-person text messaging.
- European Union / United Kingdom — GDPR & UK GDPR, where you are located in those regions.
- California — CCPA/CPRA, for California residents.
Where these laws give you stronger rights than this policy describes, those rights apply.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Subscription & nominations: your name, email address, and (optionally) your mobile phone number; and, if you nominate someone, the details you choose to share about them.
- ChilliwackConnect directory: your name, email, and the city you're from, so we can connect you to our community directory partner and gauge where to open next.
- Correspondence: anything you send us by email, form, or text.
Information we collect automatically
- Basic device and usage data — IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and referring links — collected by our host and analytics to keep the site secure and working.
Documentary footage
- As a documentary publisher, we capture photography and video — including in public places. This may include recognizable images of people. See Filming in public & your likeness.
Text messages & our A2P program
Our SMS/MMS program is express opt-in only. We only text a number when you have provided it and checked the consent box on our form.
- What we send: story drops, event and screening invites, and occasional updates from findyou.ca.
- Consent is not a condition of subscribing, purchasing, or entering any directory. You can subscribe by email alone.
- Frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply, charged by your carrier.
- Opt out anytime: reply STOP to cancel or HELPfor help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- We do not sell or share mobile opt-in information or consent. Phone numbers collected for SMS are used only to deliver the messages you asked for, and are not shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing — including our directory partners.
Full messaging terms live in our Terms of Use (SMS).
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- send the stories, updates and messages you've subscribed to;
- respond to nominations, questions, and correspondence;
- connect interested readers to the ChilliwackConnect directory and assess demand for new cities;
- operate, secure, and improve the site; and
- meet our legal, accounting, and record-keeping obligations.
Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are: your consent (for marketing email/SMS, withdrawable anytime); our legitimate interests in running and protecting the site and responding to you; and legal obligation where required.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, or as required by law. Subscription and directory details are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, after which we remove or anonymize them within a reasonable period, except where retention is legally required.
Your privacy rights
Subject to your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Delete your information ("right to be forgotten," where applicable);
- Withdraw consent to marketing email or SMS at any time;
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and requestportability of data you gave us (EU/UK); and
- be free from discrimination for exercising these rights (California).
To exercise any right, email privacy@findyou.media. We'll verify your request and respond within the timelines set by applicable law. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or your local data-protection authority.
Filming in public & your likeness
Find You Media is a documentary publisher. We identify ourselves where we film, and we capture stories and "scenes" in public spaces where there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. People who happen to appear in footage taken lawfully in public may be included in our published work.
We take this seriously and act in good faith. If you appear in our footage and have a genuine concern — for your privacy, safety, or accuracy — you can write to privacy@findyou.media and tell us why. Our review process, and the limited grounds on which we'll remove or alter published work, are set out in our Terms of Use.
Children
findyou.ca is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards — including those provided by our host PLATFRM — to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly to any incident.
International data transfers
We are based in Canada and our service providers may process data in Canada, the United States, or elsewhere. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as contractual protections) consistent with PIPEDA and, where applicable, the GDPR.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of findyou.ca after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
